TNT rates shipments on chargeable weight: the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight. For International Express the volumetric formula is L × W × H (cm) ÷ 5,000. For domestic services in Australia, TNT applies a 4,000 divisor — the same as saying 250 kg per cubic metre.

Example: a 60 × 50 × 40 cm carton weighing 12 kg. International: 120,000 ÷ 5,000 = 24 kg volumetric → billed at 24 kg. Domestic AU: 120,000 ÷ 4,000 = 30 kg → billed at 30 kg. The same box costs more domestically per kg of chargeable weight — which is why checking the right mode matters.

Since FedEx acquired TNT, many markets book TNT shipments through FedEx systems — if your account has migrated, use the FedEx calculator. For general air cargo booked through a forwarder, the IATA ÷6000 calculator applies instead.

What divisor does TNT use for volumetric weight?+

TNT International Express uses 5,000 cm³/kg: L × W × H in cm ÷ 5,000 = volumetric weight in kg. TNT domestic services in Australia use a 4,000 divisor (equivalent to 250 kg per cubic metre). Always check your service terms — contract rates can differ.

How does TNT decide what weight to bill?+

TNT compares the actual weight against the volumetric weight for the shipment and charges the greater of the two — the chargeable weight. Light but bulky consignments are billed on volume.

Is TNT the same as FedEx now?+

FedEx acquired TNT in 2016 and has been integrating TNT services into the FedEx network; in many markets TNT shipments are now booked and rated through FedEx systems (typically 5,000 divisor or 139 in³/lb). If your account has migrated, check the FedEx dimensional weight rules.

How do I calculate TNT volumetric weight for multiple boxes?+

Calculate the volumetric weight per box, take the greater of volumetric vs actual for each box, then sum. This calculator does it automatically — add a row per box size and set quantities.

Can I measure in inches and get the result in kg?+

Yes. Dimension units (cm/in) and weight units (kg/lb) are independent here — enter inches, read kilograms. The conversion is handled internally.
